Year 2
Meet the Year 2 Team
Hello! I’m Miss Cagney, and I’m delighted to be teaching Year 2 this year. I have been part of St Andrews for three years, spending my first two years in Year 5 before moving to Year 2.
I love helping to nurture children’s curiosity and wonder for learning, creating an environment where they feel excited to explore new ideas and develop their confidence. It’s a joy to see young learners grow and flourish, and I feel privileged to be part of their journey.
In Year 2, we are lucky to be joined by our wonderful teaching assistants—Mrs. Marsden, Ms. Martins, and Mrs. Kanako—who provide invaluable support in the classroom. They help to ensure that every child receives the encouragement and guidance they need to thrive in their learning.
I look forward to an exciting year of learning, discovery, and fun with my wonderful Year 2 class!
What to Expect in Year 2
Year 2 is an exciting and important year for your child as they take the next big step in their learning journey. Building on the foundations of Year 1, this year brings a greater focus on whole-class, teacher-led sessions, encouraging increased independence and deeper engagement with new topics.
The children will immerse themselves in a range of exciting and imaginative topics that spark curiosity and make learning both fun and meaningful. With each new subject, they will be encouraged to explore, ask questions, and think critically as they discover new ideas and concepts.
In Year 2, children develop a strong sense of confidence and resilience, with plenty of opportunities to showcase their creativity and enthusiasm. Our supportive learning environment ensures that every child feels inspired and motivated to reach their full potential, setting them up for continued success in the years ahead.
The Year 2 Curriculum
The Year 2 curriculum continues to prioritise the development of foundational skills in reading and writing, with a strong emphasis on the RWI phonics programme. This approach ensures that every child builds confidence in their literacy skills, setting them up for future success. Topics are carefully selected to be both exciting and engaging, sparking children’s imaginations and encouraging them to explore new ideas. From the fascinating story of The Great Fire of London to the adventures of Antarctic explorers, each topic provides a dynamic learning experience that brings history, science, and creativity to life.
